Mini-Mustard: Messy Progress

Messy Progress Colorful folder on floor | The Mustard Patch mustardpatch

Today's seed for thought...

Progress is messy.

Here, sit on the floor with me and ponder this mess I just unearthed from behind closed doors.

Ever have one of those this-would-have-been-a-whole-lot-simpler-if-I-just-left-well-enough-alone moments?

Yeah, me too. Unfortunately, that's not how this works.

Progress, my friends, is messy. It doesn't follow a straight line, and it doesn't even always go forward. Sometimes it's colorful, but we're not always in the mood for colorful when what we'd really like is orderly.

It's true for cleaning closets, and it's true for the life-rattling soul cleaning that sometimes comes our way. Take a deep breath. Just because we're sitting in a mess does not mean we're in the wrong spot. Sometimes messy is simply the path to progress.

Hang in there. And maybe let's pause for a cup of tea and revisit our messes tomorrow.

Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58).
